What is Patellar Realignment Surgery?

Patellar realignment surgery is a procedure that is used to correct the alignment of the patella (kneecap) when it is not properly positioned in the groove of the femur bone. This condition is called patellar instability or patellofemoral instability.

During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision in the knee and reposition the patella so that it is properly aligned. The goal of the surgery is to reduce pain and improve the function of the knee joint.

Patients who may benefit from patellar realignment surgery include those who have recurrent patellar dislocations or chronic pain in the knee joint that has not responded to non-surgical treatments.

Consult your case with Dr. Biren Nadkarni, Senior Orthopedic Consultant and Surgeon. He will be available in person at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at Hauz Khas, New Delhi. He can also be reached at Sitaram Bhartia Institute and Holy Family Hospital.

Why do my Shoulder Pains?

There could be several factors causing shoulder pain. Some of them are given below:
• Tears of the rotator cuff tendons
• Arthritis in the shoulder joint
• Bone spurs in the shoulder area
• The inflammation of a fluid-filled sac (bursa) that protects and helps the joint move smoothly
Dislocation of the shoulder
• Frozen shoulder, which occurs when the muscles, tendons, and ligaments inside the shoulder become stiff, making movement difficult and painful
• Injury in the bicep of the arms or excessive use
• Abnormal movement due to injury in the nerve of the shoulder

Consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant, and Surgeon, if the traditional treatment such as Rest, ice, medications, and physiotherapy fails to subside the pain. Dr. Biren Nadkarni will be available prior to the appointment at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at Hauz Khas New Delhi, Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research Hospital, and Holy Family Hospital.

How Do Doctors Diagnose Knee Problem

Your orthopedic surgeon will ask about your complete medical history and conduct a physical exam of your knee to look for swelling, pain, bruising, warmth, and range of motion. He may also recommend imaging tests to confirm the problem in the knee.
• X-rays show bone fractures or degenerative joint disease
• MRI to view soft tissues like ligaments, tendons, and cartilage
• CT scan shows detailed images of any body part, including the joints, bones, muscles, fat, and organs. CT scans are more detailed than general X-rays.
• Arthroscopy is a minimally-invasive diagnostic and treatment procedure used to see Joints conditions.

If you are feeling pain around the knee and want to get it examined, consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant, and Surgeon in person at his clinic - 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 & 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 situated at Hauz Khas, New Delhi. What conditions are treated with Arthroscopy Surgery?

Arthroscopy is a procedure in which an orthopedic surgeon inserts a narrow tube attached to a fiber-optic camera through a small incision to diagnose and treat joint conditions affecting joints such as the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, hip, and wrist. The camera at the end of the instrument transmits images to the monitor that help surgeons to view the inside of the joint for better treatment.

Conditions treated with arthroscopy include:
• Lose bone fragments
• Damaged or torn cartilage
• Inflamed joint linings
• Torn ligaments
• Scarring within joints

Consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant and Surgeon, if you are feeling pain in your joints. What is the Difference between Meniscus Repair and Partial Meniscectomy?

The meniscus is a shock-absorbing pad of cartilage in the knee that lubricates, supports, and protects the bones in the knee joint. An athletic injury, heavy lifting, or aging can damage the meniscus which may lead to a progression of osteoarthritis. Minor tears can often heal on their own without surgery, but more severe tears often require surgery. Depending on the extent of the injury and the importance of preserving the meniscus as much as possible, an orthopedic surgeon may recommend meniscus repair or meniscectomy surgery.

In meniscus repair, the surgeon inserts an arthroscope (optic tube) along the tear to bind it using sutures. Over time, these sutures are absorbed by the body leaving healed and repaired meniscus.  However, in meniscectomy, a tiny device is inserted to remove the torn meniscus and the damaged part of the meniscus is trimmed to give it a smooth edge known as a partial meniscectomy. The recovery time is lesser as compared to recovery in meniscus repair.

If you are feeling pain around the knee, and it increases while putting pressure or weight, it could be a meniscus tear. Consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant, and Surgeon in person at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at Hauz Khas, New Delhi. He can also be reached at Sitaram Bhartia Institute and Holy Family Hospital.

What Does A Meniscus Tear Feel Like?

The meniscus is a Crescent-shaped cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between the shinbone and the thighbone. It can be torn due to sudden twists or degenerative changes that happen due to age. In fact, a meniscal tear is one of the most common knee injuries.

Symptoms of a meniscus tear include:
• Pain in the knee
• Swelling
• A popping sensation during the injury
• Difficulty in bending and straightening the leg
• Feeling of Knee lock up or Knee get stuck

In the beginning, the pain may manageable. But once the inflammation sets in, your knee will probably hurt quite a bit. If the pain increases, consult Dr Biren Nadkarni for the proper diagnosis and the best treatment. He will be available in person at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at Hauz Khas, New Delhi. He can also be reached at Sitaram Bhartia Institute and Holy Family Hospital.

What is MPFL Reconstruction?

The Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) is a ligament that attaches the kneecap (patella) and the femur, the long bone of the thigh. MPFL helps in stabilizing the kneecap and prevent it from moving outward or dislocate from its position.

Sometime, this ligament (MPFL) gets injured when the kneecap (Patella) is dislocated. Such kind of knee injury is very common among Athletes or patients with an underlying abnormality of the knee.

Depending upon the condition, MPFL can be treated using NSAIDs and physical therapy. If the injury is severe, your orthopedic surgeons will either try to repair the ligament, or reconstruct the ligament using graft technique.

If you have history of recurrent Patella dislocations consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant and Surgeon,at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at HauzKhas, New Delhi. He can also be reached at Holy Family Hospital or Sitaram Bhartia Institute.
