What is Patellar Realignment Surgery?

Patellar realignment surgery is a procedure that is used to correct the alignment of the patella (kneecap) when it is not properly positioned in the groove of the femur bone. This condition is called patellar instability or patellofemoral instability.

During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision in the knee and reposition the patella so that it is properly aligned. The goal of the surgery is to reduce pain and improve the function of the knee joint.

Patients who may benefit from patellar realignment surgery include those who have recurrent patellar dislocations or chronic pain in the knee joint that has not responded to non-surgical treatments.

Easy Tips for Healthy Knees

Knees are the most important joints in the body which help in supporting the body and making movement possible. Healthy knees are must for the overall well being of a person.

Easy Tips for Healthy Knees

  • Don’t be idle for too long, stay in motion: It's the key tip to ensure good joint health. The more you move, lesser will be the stiffness you'll have. Whether you're reading, working or watching TV, keep changing positions often. Take short breaks at regular intervals from your desk or your chair and get active.
  • Ensure safety first: Use the right gear for different sporting activities. So always suit up when you do things like in-line skating or play any contact sports. If your joints already ache, it might help to wear braces when you play sports like tennis or golf.

  • Lose weight: Your weight puts most of the strain on the hips, knees, and also the back. Reducing the stress on them can significantly improve knee health. Every pound you lose takes 4 pounds of pressure off the knees
  • Don’t stretch too much before exercise: Flexibility facilitates better movement. Always try to stretch every day or at least three times a week. But don't do it when the muscles are cold.
  • Flex some muscles: Get stronger to give your joints better support. Even a little more strength makes a difference. If you have joint problems, avoid quick and repetitive movements.
  • Know you’re limits: It's always normal to have some aching muscles after the exercise. But if it hurts for more than 2 days, you might have over stressed the joints. So, don't push very hard the next time. Working with the pain may lead to an injury or damage.
  • Keep your bones strong: Calcium and vitamin D can help you do that. Dairy products are one of the best sources of calcium. Also some of the other options are green leafy vegetables like broccoli and cabbage.
  • Keep the right posture: Stand and sit up in the right posture to protect the joints all the way from the neck down to your knees. To improve the posture, take a walk. The faster you do it, the harder your muscles work to keep you upright.

Get Back to Your Daily Activities Without Any Pain

Knee Replacement is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and disability. Knee replacement surgery can be performed as a partial or a total knee replacement. In general, the surgery consists of replacing the diseased or damaged joint surfaces of the knee with metal and plastic components shaped to allow continued motion of the knee.

  • Severe knee pain is experienced that limits your everyday activities, such dressing, bathing, getting out of bed or a chair, or climbing stairs.
  • Knee stiffness
  • Moderate or severe knee pain while you are resting, day or night
  • Long-lasting knee inflammation and swelling that doesn’t get better with rest or medications

The most serious complication is infection of the joint, which occurs in <1% of patients. Risk factors for infection are related to both patient and surgical factors.

The knee at times may not recover its normal range of motion (0–135 degrees usually) after total knee replacement. Much of this is dependent on pre-operative function. Most patients can move up to 0–110 degrees, but stiffness of the joint can also occur. In some situations, manipulation of the knee under anesthetic is used to reduce post-operative stiffness. Nowadays there are also many implants from manufacturers that are designed to be "high-flexible" knees, offering more range of motion to your knees.

You will able to resume normal leisure activities within six weeks after surgery. However, it may take up to three months for pain and swelling to settle down.

Joint and Bone Solutions offer Best Knee Replacement in New Delhi with the help of dedicated team of doctors and other staff.

Does Knee Pain Interfere in Your Daily Life ?

Knee Replacement is the most common orthopedic operation. The damaged part is removed and replaced with artificial prostheses. The three sections of the knee are medial, lateral, and compartment. Damage to the cartilages that cover the joint surfaces is caused by many factors such as inflammatory arthritis, osteoarthritis, etc. When all the three parts are removed due to the damages, it is termed as a Total knee replacement surgery.

http://www.drbirennadkarni.com/treatments/arthritis-care/knee-arthritis/total-knee-replacement/

Knee replacement is done under general or epidural anesthesia. General anesthesia totally wipes off the memories of the patient during operation and they can recall nothing. The epidural anesthesia becomes numb from the waist to the ankle. The patients will be able to see or hear everything as it is a local anesthesia offering a numb sensation to the knee.
The type of anesthesia which is administered to the patient depends on the patient’s condition and the anesthetist’s decision. Incisions are made on the knee joint to access the internal part of the knee. The damaged cartilage and bones are removed which is followed by artificial implantation.
The knee prosthesis contains femoral, tibial, and patellar components. Variation depends on the manufacturer. Or a maximum of 10-15 years, the artificial joints can last with limited physical activity, especially to the knee.
Total Knee Replacement is done when the medication, physiotherapy, and knee pads do not have an effect at all. This surgery involves the replacement of all the three components and implanting prosthesis in order to reduce pain and improve the functioning of the joints.
As a preventing measure, blood thinning drugs and stockings are provided. After the surgery, physiotherapy helps the patient rehabilitate.
  • Faster recovery
  • Affordable operation cost
  • Improved mobility of the knee
  • Reduced pain
