After your Total knee replacement surgery, the following precautions can help in avoiding post-surgery complications or any damage to the operated knee.
Taking care of Wound
Make sure that the wound is dry and healed completely. Consult your Orthopedic Surgeon if any complication arises.
Prevent Blood Clot and DVT
Preventing blood clot plays an important role in the recovery process. There is also a possibility of developing a DVT after surgery. To avoid such situations, your doctor or physical therapist will guide you with the following approach:
• Specific exercises to restore full range of motion, increase lower body strength and improve circulation
• Anti-clotting medicine to prevent blood clots
Other points to remember after Total Knee Replacement Surgery are as follow:
• Take the support of cane or crutches to walk around for the first two weeks
• Don’t sit with your legs crossed or twist, prefer sitting on a chair as high as your operated knee
• Don’t keep sitting or standing for too long
• Prefer sleeping on the non-operated knee bodyside
• When it comes to climbing the stair, climb one stair at a time
