How Long will I be on Cructches after ACL Reconstruction Surgery?

ACL reconstruction surgery is performed on patients having torn ligaments commonly known as anterior cruciate. Matter of fact, the rehabilitation program starts right after the surgery to restore range of motion, strengthen muscles and regain balance. On discharge, you will be advised to follow all the guidelines provided by your Orthopedic Surgeon and Physical Therapist to speed up the recovery. In the first two weeks, you may feel pressure or discomfort on the operated leg, so plan on using crutches, braces, and pain relief medications.

Crutches will be advised until you can walk without a limp on the operated knee, which normally takes about 10 to 14 days after surgery. However, if the meniscus is also operated and repaired at the same time, the use of crutches will be needed for a longer period.

Consult Dr. Biren Nadkarni, a Senior Orthopedic Consultant, and Surgeon, for all the precautions that need to be taken after ACL reconstruction surgery. He will be available in person at his clinic - Joint & Bone Solutions situated at Hauz Khas, New Delhi as well as through online consultation. He can be reached at Sitaram Bhartia Institute and Holy Family Hospital also.
